Le Devoir: using AI to help employees learn French
July 15, 2026 · Mathilde Beaulieu-Lépine, Local Journalism Initiative
Le Devoir's technology section looked at how Conversaflex helps English-speaking employees practise French in work situations, and why it appeals to Ontario organizations that serve francophone communities.
The article follows Kristy McClatchey, who works at Kids Help Phone in Ontario. Her work is mostly in English, but she sometimes needs to work with francophone or bilingual colleagues. She had studied French through high school and picked it up again with an app, but hit a plateau: she knew the words she wanted to use, and wanted to be able to hold a conversation naturally. She told Le Devoir she struggled to find a voice tool that understood her and used Quebec French rather than European French, and that practising with Conversaflex helped her get past her nerves.
Our co-founder Alexa Love-Tremblay, a former French as a second language teacher, was clear about what the tool is and isn't: « Ce n'est pas un professeur » ("It's not a teacher"). Conversaflex lets employees practise, in situations from their own work, what they have already learned, with feedback from an AI trained to understand accents. As she told the paper, learning a language comes with a lot of nervousness, and she believes AI can give new learners confidence. The article also notes that we offer the same practice in English for Quebec companies.
